3.2. Key Features

This section introduces key features of FrontBase which make it the ideal database for Internet applications. FrontBase supports most of the important features of "the big boys" and is more standards-compliant than free and open source solutions.

3.2.1. Terabyte Databases, Gigabyte Column Values FrontBase supports terabyte-sized databases, gigabyte character column values, and gigabyte-sized BLOBs and CLOBs.
3.2.2. FrontBase Security FrontBase uses passwords, encryption, and client IP address checks for security. This section gives an overview of security features.
3.2.3. Transactions This article describes FrontBase's transaction support.
3.2.4. Row Level Priveleges This article gives a brief overview of Row Level Priveleges.
3.2.5. Live Backup FrontBase's versioning system allows it to perform backups of live databases (i.e. while clients continue to access and modify the database).
3.2.6. Caching This article describes FrontBase's two caching schemes: the table cache and the raw device driver (global cache).
3.2.7. Multi-server Deployment This article describes FrontBase's replication and clustering features, which allow multi-server deployment for both redundancy and enhanced performance.
